Turkey is a treasure chest of ancient history

Turkey Was home to an astounding number of ancient cultures and the cradle of 10 of the world's greatest civilizations. From Hittite and Assyrian to Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine cultures, each group has left relics that can be found in many corners of the country. Today's Turkey very much a westward looking nation, but one deep roots in Asia and Islam. Turkey realy is a bridge between the East and the West.

Turkish food
Food in the tourist areas of Turkey can be disappointing.
The worst thing to do is to try and eat as you would as if you were at home.
While many restaurants and cafes will try to cater to European plates, the results are usually uninspired.
There are of course, exceptions to this trend but on the whole eating 'International Cuisine' means paying too much for something that may look right but probably doesn't taste the way you thought it would.

Do you like golf
Quite simply Turkey has without a doubt top class, good value golf destinations and expanding rapidy in terms of new golf courses and new golf resort hotels.
The most famous golfing resorts, which already exist, are of course, the Gloria Golf Resort and its 45 hole complex and the Sirene Palace Golf Resort which owns the 36 hole development adjacent called Antalya Golf Club.

The Coastline
Turkey has a coastline of over 5000 miles and is surrounded by sea on three sides, the Black Sea in the North, The Mediterranean in the South and the Aegean Sea in the West. There is also an internal Sea called the Sea of Marmara, between the straits of the Dardanelles and the Bosphorus.

Boat Cruises
A visit to Turkey is not complete without a boat trip of some kind and traditional wooden gullet boats are on hand to take visitors on gentle cruises on the calm, turquoise waters. Turkey's dramatic coastline is best viewed from the sea and at Kekova you can even see a sunken Roman town beneath the crystal clear waters.

Turkish Kangal
The Kangal Dog is the national dog breed of Turkey. This large dog was originally used as a Livestock guardian dog, but has been increasing in popularity as a guard dog. It is of an early mastiff type with a solid tan or grey coat, and should always have a black mask on its face; indeed, another name for the breed is Karabash or black head.
The Kangal was combined with the Akbash to create the Anatolian Shepherd Dog.

Turkish Angora Cat
www.vantasia.org/ The Turkish Angora cat (Ankara Kedisi) is one of the ancient, naturally-occurring cat breeds, having originated in central Turkey, in the Ankara region. They mostly have a white, silky, medium-long length coat, no undercoat and fine bone structure.Eyes may be blue, green or amber, but it is often a combination of one blue and one amber. The W gene responsible for white coat and blue eye is closely related to the their hearing ability, and presence of a blue eye can indicate the cat is deaf to the side the blue eye is located. However, a great many blue and odd-eyed whites have normal hearing, and even deaf cats lead a very normal, if indoor, life.

Tulips come from Holland. Right? Wrong!

Dutch tulips and daffodils, are exported all around the world so people thinks that it's originated from there. In fact many cultivated varieties were widely grown in Turkey long before they were introduced to European gardens. The Turks first gave the Dutch their famous tulips that started the craze for the flower in England and the Netherlands. Bulbs brought to Vienna from Istanbul in the 1500s were so intensely popular that by 1634 in Holland it was called "tulipmania". People invested money in tulips as they do in stocks today. This period of elegance and amusement in 17th century Turkey is referred to as "The Tulip Age."
