Ephesus
The ancient city of Ephesus (Efes), located near the Aegean Sea in modern day Turkey, was one of the great cities of the Greeks in Asia Minor. In ancient times Ephesus was the home of the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Today, the ruins of Ephesus are a major tourist attraction, especially for travelers on Mediterranean cruises. One of Ephesus’ attractions is the fact that so much of it remains intact and little imagination is required to see what the Roman city would have looked like.
The largest temple of the cult of Artemis (Diana) which developed out of the traditions of the Anatolian Mother Goddess Kybele, is also located in Ephesus. Excavation on the superb terrace houses in Ephesus has recently been completed.
They are now open to the public for the very first time (Admission applies).
